Challenge: Strengthen non-profit infrastructure and improve processes and procedures
1863 Ventures sought to strengthen its non-profit infrastructure and improve internal processes to better serve its mission of supporting Black and Brown entrepreneurs. The organization faced challenges in unifying its nonprofit and venture fund operations, managing multiple revenue streams, and ensuring compliance with both grant and investment requirements. There was a need for more effective systems for budget tracking, fund accounting, and program monitoring to sustain its growing impact.
Outcome: Restructure of organizational processes, provide operational advisement and leadership to enable systematic processes that directly helped fund, educate, and strengthen businesses
Over three consulting engagements, TWW played a pivotal role in guiding 1863 Ventures through a comprehensive organizational transformation. By providing operational advisement and leadership, TWW helped design and implement systematic processes tailored to the organization’s unique needs. This included developing robust budgeting frameworks, introducing cash flow modeling, and formalizing financial controls. TWW’s support also enhanced board oversight, improved staff training, and established scenario planning tools, all of which enabled 1863 Ventures to more effectively fund, educate, and strengthen the businesses it serves. As a result, the organization is now positioned for greater accountability, sustainability, and impact.
